Ubuntu

Ubuntu incorporates all the features of a unix OS with un added customizable GUI, which makes it popular in university & research organization.

Ubuntu is primarly designed to be used on personal computers, although server editions do exist.

Ubuntu consists  of many software package which are lisenced under GNU general public disence. This  allows users to copy change develop & redistribute their own version of the program.

Ubuntu comes with a wide range of software programs including firefox and libre office. There is also proprietary software that can be run on ubunty

Ubuntu is an African world that literally means humanity to other.

Introduction Of  educational soft ware

Educational software can refer to a computer software whose primary purpose is either teaching or self learning of content.

Educational software can refer to most educational technologies that comprises powerful teaching tools.

Many types of educational software have been developed for a number of different purposes and many genres have been experimented.

The main types of educational software can classified on the basis of their teaching approach such as Home learning, educational & reference software course ware.

Home learning

A wide set of title devoted to the home learning are grouped with particular attention being paid to children.

It is often difficult to distinguish real educational software from other products where the gaming nature exceeds their educational nature.

Course ware

·         The term courseware identifies all that software which is intended to be used as a support for school students to university students.

·                     Courseware includes tools expressly designed to be used by the teachers at school and products suitable to be used by students at home for improving their knowledge on specific topic.

·                     Courseware products have been expanded by adding topic, knowledge, improvements & organized to be used during courses & integrated the curricula

Edutainment

·                     The term edutainment is aged for describing those products which combine computer games & educational soft wares

Edutainment encompasses children friendly tools which have an educational value and which result in an optimal teaching solution for young children.

Reference software

·                     CD-Roms encouraged the diffusion of reference software such as dictionaries & encyclopedias

·                     Reference software products were the digital translation of already existing print and were enriched by means of multimedia features such as sound and compressed video.

·                     Many topics specific products were created & commercialized together with multimedia.

·                     Reference software  migrating from CD Roms to the web and is becoming free & open – source.

The Benefits Of Using Educational Software

Multimedia contents & interaction with the user are the main strong point of educational software & the features that manly differentiate them from traditional media such books & television.

Multimedia contents give the software the capability of attracting the user & specially children.

Geogebra

Geogebra is available on multiple platform with its desktop & tablet application.

Construction can be made with points vectors segment, lines polygons, conic section, inequalities implicit polynomials & functions which can be changed later.

Elements can be entered & modified directly via mouse & touch or thorough the input bar.

Geogebra has the ability to use variables for numbers, vectors and points and find derivatives and integrates of functions & has a full complement of commands like root or extremum.

Teachers and students can use Geogebra to make conjectures & to understand how to prove geometric theorems.

The main features of Geogebra are:

§     Interactive geometric environment (2D & 3D)

§     Built in Spread sheet

§     Built in statistics & calculus tools

§     Allows scripting

§     Large number of interactive learning & teaching resources.

Phet interactive simulations

Phet interactive simulations is a non-profit open educational resource (OER) project found by Nobel Laureate carl wieman in 2002, whose vision was to improve the way science is taught & learned.

The stated mission of Phet is “To advance & math literacy and education world wide through free interactive simulations.”

The phet project now designs, develops, & releases over 125 free interactive simulations for educational use in the fields of Physics, chemistry, Biology, earth science & mathematics”.

Phet interactive simulation incorporates research based practices on effective teaching to enhance the learning of science and mathematical concepts.

The Phet simulations are designed to be flexible so that they can be  used as lecture demonstration labs or home work activities.

The Phet simulations use an intuitive game like environment where students  can learn through scientist like exploration with in a simplified environment, where dynamic visual representation make the visible invisible & where science ideas are connected to real world phenomena.

A Phet simulations starts with there to five people including a content expert, a Teacher, an educational researcher & professional software developer.

The design begin with identifying specific learning goals that have proven to be conceptually difficult based on teachers experiences in the classroom.

Each simulation is user-tested though interviews with students & in classrooms reworked as need & retested before released on the Phet website.

Along with testing every simulations. The Phet team performs education research on their simulations.

They have shown in their research that understanding of concept improve when students explore simulations in additions to traditional lab.

Scilab

Scilab is free and open source software for numerical computation providing a powerful computing environment for engineering & scientific application.

Scilab includes hundreds of mathematical functions with a high level programming language which allows access to advanced data structure 2D & 3rd graphical functions.

Scilab includes large number of functionalities.

·         Maths & simulations: For usual engineering & science application including mathematical operations & data analysis

·         2 D 3 D vosia;osation: Graphic function to visualize annotate & expert data & many ways to create & customize various type of plots & charts.

·         Optimization : Algorithams to solve constrained & constrained continues & discrete optimization problems.

·         Statistics : Tools perform data analysis and modeling

·         Signal processing : visualize, analyse & filter signals in time & frequency domains

·         Application development: increase salab native function duties & manage data exchange with external tools.

·           X-cos-Hybrid dynamic system modeler & simulator mechanical system, hydraulic circuits control system etc.
